Granada
The historic city of Granada, dominated by the
backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Moorish Alhambra Palace,
can be reached in around 35 minutes drive from Casa Buena Vista. For those wanting to leave the car behind, there is a regular bus
service running from Saleres direct to Granada.
There is a further bus connecting the city centre with the Alhambra
Palace, which is only a short distance away, but a challenging uphill
walk! The Palace is one of Spain's most visited tourist
attractions, due to its intricate Moorish architecture and the elaborately designed and immaculately maintained gardens. Guided tours around the Palace and gardens are available in English and
other languages. Alternatively, you can wander around at your leisure. No
holiday to this region of Spain is complete without a
visit to the Palace! The hilltop location of the Palace also affords stunning views of the
city and the surrounding countryside. There are also excellent viewpoints
of the Palace itself in the city, as shown in the
photograph opposite.
Granada is an attractive city, with many
interesting sights and attractions. It also benefits from all the usual facilities of a European city
including theatres, cinemas, night clubs, hypermarkets, other leisure
activities and excellent shopping.The
Albaycin area of the city is the African quarter,
where there are a large selection of shops offering
unusual souvenirs and clothing not readily available
elsewhere. There are also a number of African bars and
restaurants offering authentic and deliciously exotic
food and drinks in a very different atmosphere.
There is also a water park in Granada to help cool the children down in
the hot weather. Or, for something different, how about an evening spent dining and watching
Flamenco dancing!
Casa Buena Vista is an ideal rural house ( casa rural ) from which to
explore Granada. There
are also a number of places to visit beyond Granada,
although still within comfortable reach. For example, Guadix is a large pleasant town with some lovely buildings
and a relaxed atmosphere. For an unusual experience, take a trip to the area of town comprising
of a community of cave houses. There is a museum here, and some of the
locals are happy to show you around their houses for a small donation. Young and old alike will be fascinated!
There is also the Sierra Nevada
mountains and the ski resort to explore, but this is
covered elsewhere on this site. |
