The Valley
The Lecrin Valley (translated as Valley of Happiness) is a
scenic, interesting and peaceful haven just away from the Costa del Sol.
That said, a 15 minute drive from the cottage takes you to the Granada to
Motril motorway, giving easy access to the Costa Tropical beaches, the
historic city of Granada and beyond. You can therefore enjoy the best of
both worlds, and get to know the real Spain into the bargain!
The Lecrin Valley is an ideal location for holiday
cottages in Andalucia, Spain.
The natural beauty of the valley is provided by the hilly
landscape , planted extensively with orange, lemon, almond and olive
trees. This is enhanced by Lake Beznar in the bottom of the valley, which
provides opportunities for walking, fishing and picnics. Dotted in every nook and cranny of the valley are traditional
villages with winding narrow streets and the original white-walled houses.
A truly outstanding combination.
The valley looks out onto the Sierra Nevada mountain range, whose
highest peak (Malhacen) remains snow-capped between December and May
which, given the valley climate, you will find hard to believe and is a
stunning sight!
Most of the villages in the valley have their own bar and
supermarket, and many have banks. There are numerous restaurants, a few
nightclubs, a petrol station and most other goods and services that you
may require on your holiday within easy reach in the valley. There are
deliveries of staple groceries to the smaller outlying villages during the
week, and many villages have weekly markets.
More extensive shopping and other facilities can be found in the city
of Granada, including a hypermarket, which is easy to access and around 30
minutes drive away from the cottage.
Leisure activities in the valley consist mainly of exploring
the local area, enjoying the bars and restaurants, walking, swimming,
fishing, horse riding and relaxing into the slow pace of life. Artists and
photographers will find plenty of subjects of interest, with the valley
regularly being host to artistic holiday parties.
Again, more extensive activities can be found in the immediately
surrounding area including golf, skiing, climbing, water sports and the
usual city entertainments in Granada.
