The Village
Casa Buena Vista is located in the picturesque village of Saleres,
in the beautiful Lecrin Valley (which translated means Valley of
Happiness).
The village is still a traditional Spanish hillside farming community,
and has changed little over recent decades. However, because of the
undoubted attractions of the area, there are now a few Spanish holiday
cottages in the village.
Saleres is characterised by typical white walled Spanish cottages lovingly tended by their owners, narrow attractive streets along
which you are more likely to meet a donkey than a car, ornate lighting and
several viewpoints over the surrounding countryside.
The village church is particularly attractive, and provides
a place to sit and watch village life go by, mingle with the locals or to
use the nearby public telephone (coin operated) to call home!
Casa Buena Vista is situated at the far end of
the village, on a narrow street (impassable to cars - parking nearby)
and adjacent to citrus and olive groves. The location
makes the cottage very peaceful, allowing you to relax and enjoy the
stunning views, and leaving you fully energised to enjoy the extensive
attractions of the area all year round.
The village is an ideal location for walkers. The long distance GR7
footpath runs through the village, providing walking opportunities through
the groves and gorge to villages further up and down the valley, or way
beyond for those with more energy. There are also some shorter walks from
the cottage, providing aerial views of the village and panoramic views of
the Sierra Nevada mountains, which are snow-capped from December to May.
An unmissable sight whilst standing amongst citrus trees in the warm
sunshine! Bread is
delivered to the village daily except Sundays, and other supplies are
delivered at various times during the week. There is also a weekly
mini-market on Fridays.
Several supermarkets can be found in the surrounding villages, the
nearest being a walkable 1.5kms away. These villages also have bars, and
there are some excellent restaurants (two within 3kms). Most other
services and facilities are available within 3 to 6kms including petrol /
diesel and several banks with cashpoints.
There is a bus service from the village operating several times a day
to the historic city of Granada, and the neighboring village of Albunuelas
(which has most facilities you are likely to require).
For car drivers, Saleres is around 15 minutes drive from the
motorway running between Granada and the Costa Tropical (coast) at Salobrena.
