Walking from the door
Casa Buena Vista is ideal for
walkers and ramblers, no matter how far you like to go.
The village is located on the long-distance GR-7
footpath which runs across Europe from Gibraltar to
Istanbul. Whilst you won't go that far, this footpath
offers excellent walking opportunities up and down the
Lecrin Valley - you can either start from the door, or
join the footpath at various points in the valley. The
are also other walks to be enjoyed around the village.
Below you will find brief
details of the three most popular walks from the door of
Casa Buena Vista, together with photos. Directions for
the walks are included in our joining instructions for
the convenience of our guests. |

Walk 1 - to Albunuelas and back -
5 miles (2 hours) If you
only do one walk while you are staying at Casa Buena
Vista, this has to be it, as it will show you the best
characteristics of the area. Starting off steeply uphill
for ten minutes, but then levelling off, through citrus
and olive groves. You then walk through the gorge,
winding your way towards Albunuelas, where you will find
a number of bars for refreshment. You then return
downhill by quiet road back to Saleres, with amazing and
uninterrupted views across the Lecrin Valley towards the
Sierra Nevada mountains.

Walk 2 - to Restabal, Melegis,
Murchas and Lake Beznar -
up to 11 miles (up to 4 hours)
This is a lovely walk over the
river and through the citrus groves to the neighbouring
village of Restabal, with bars, a restaurant and
supermarkets. From here you could return to Saleres by
quiet road for a short 3 mile / 1 hour walk.
Alternatively, you could continue through the hilly
landscape to Murchas (where there is an Arabic fort) or
Melegis (further bars / restaurants and views over the
lake) covering a further 6miles / 2 hours return. Or,
take a detour in Restabal to Lake Beznar for a cooling
dip, adding another 2 miles / 40 minutes. Explore!!

Walk 3 - Views of Saleres -
2 miles+ (around 1 hour) If you
fancy a short but energetic stroll, start off along the
river in Saleres, and then climb the hill opposite the
village through citrus, olive and almond trees. You will
be rewarded with fantastic views up and down the valley,
of the Sierra Nevada mountains and aerial views of
Saleres itself. Continue along the farm tracks or turn
back when you have had enough.
